Blog 10: English language challenges

Imagen
About my experience learning English at university I think that only four levels to learn the language it’s not enough.  As journalists we need to know how to speak and understand fluid English, to be prepared when we need to spoke with someone who is from another country, because it seems that English has positioned itself as the world’s language. About the use of the blogs I think it would be more useful if we discuss the topics in groups in contrast to writing by ourselves. We would give feedback to each other and we would learn from the discussion and from our classmate’s perspectives. Personally, I think I need to improve my pronunciation and how to conjugate the words. I guess by speaking in English with others it’s the better way to learn quickly and improve more easily my flaws. I know the existence of groups in Santiago that, at least four times a month, get together to speak only and exclusively English to progress with their pronunciation and vocabulary. I would love to

Blog 9: Changes to my study programme

After my first year as a student, the university decided to change the curriculum for the upcoming generations, adding new subjects, throwing away others and passing a few to previous years. In my opinion, the new curriculum is way better in comparison with the one that we have, now the new generations understand since the beginning of the career their rights and also have more history knowledge, which are the basic stuff for us to work as professionals journalists. However, I think that are still many changes that are need to do to improve our career, for example in terms of infrastructure, on the second and third year of journalism we have at the same time our radio class, the problem here is the very few studios that our university have. It’s a common thing that when we need to record something for a work or an extracurricular project is very difficult to get a studio because they are always busy. We also need more green areas and recreational places to be in, we pass almost all

Blog 8: Summer Vacation (Holidays) At the beginning of this year I had so many plans for my summer vacations, but now I decided to star my internship as a journalist, sadly I don’t have one yet, I’m still looking for the right place to do it, so I hope to find it soon because I’m running out of time! In December, after finishing my classes, I will travel to see my family in Rancagua. I’m going to spend Christmas and the New Year’s celebration with them and then I will come back to Santiago to star my internship. In Rancagua I want to sleep and watch all the series and anime that I can’t see right now. Also I will spend time with my cats (I have five cats in Rancagua and two here in Santiago), see my school’s friends and eat all the delicious food that my mom and dad cook for me and my siblings when we came to visit them. In despite that I can’t travel this summer for my internship, here in Santiago are always so many fun and interesting things to do: music and illustration f

Blog 7: My Favorite Character  This blog in particular is very difficult for me because I have so many favorites characters from different series, but for this opportunity I’m picking one from an anime that I recently watch: Boku No Hero Academia. The plot of the story began when in our world, suddenly and with no explication, the majority of the babies born with super-powers. Years after, this condition became the new normal for almost everyone and being a hero become to settle as a job, even schools were build to learn how to become one. In this context Ochako Urakara appears, a girl who is applying to become an U.A.’s student, the most prestigious school for super heroes in Japan. Her power is called Zero Gravity and consists on manipulate the gravity of objects and people by touching them, for example, she can make a car weightless and throw it into the air like a paper ball. A drawback of her power is that if she used it too much, she will be suffer from nausea and possibl

Blog 6: Postgraduate Studies In terms of my postgraduate studies I’m still figure it out because I have more than one option. For example, I would like to know more about gender studies; in fact I’m interested on doing my thesis related to communication with a gender approach or something related to the drag queen culture. Also, I really enjoy writing, so I would love to study a degree associated to creative writing and maybe in the future be able to work as a scriptwriter. And on the other hand, I really like the course that ICEI offer about Communication and Cultural Management. I like the idea of creating my own cultural agency and work on development projects related to encourage Chilean art; so as you can read I’m a little bit all over the place. One thing that I know for sure is that I would love to study anything on other country, but I’m not in a rush so I think maybe I study something here in Chile first (besides my actual career) and then I would make plans to go outs

Blog 5: My future job I am currently working on a Chilean music radio show called Estación Local, where I lead a small section in which I talk about new and emerging Chilean music. Besides that, one of the things that I really enjoy doing for the program is organize and produce events outside of the studio: illustration’s fairs and small festivals. So in the future I would love to create or work in a cultural management organization that allows me to produce this type of events on a larger scale. I love working outdoors, but I don’t mind working indoors either. In fact, a lot of the works that I do for Estación Local is at the Radio JGM’s studios, but my favorite part of working on the show, as I said, is produce events outside of our studio. I would love to have the chance to travel because of my job. I like the idea of meeting new and talented people from all around the world, sharing our experiences and inspire us to create new things. In terms of the salary, I just hope to

Blog 4: Jimmy´s Hall Review I don’t love the film, but I don’t hate it either. I think the plot is great and knowing that is based on a true story make it more interesting.  And as I said in the last entrance, I don’t know that much about the Irish’s history, so I always appreciate learning new stuff thought a film.   My favorite character has to be Jimmy’s mother. She was so sweet and funny and also she reminds me of my grandmother, specially the scene when she pretended to lose the key so she could help Jimmy escape. One thing that I really liked about the film was all the landscapes and locations. Since the last movie that we saw,” The Wind That Shakes The Barley”, I was amaze by all the green on their fields, a color that I don’t see often in Santiago. In the other hand, I think the movie was really slow and I get lost and bored sometimes. My favorite scene was the contrast between the moment when all the people was dancing and singing at Jimmy’s Hall on opposition to s
